Syrian Democratic Council: Turkish military interventions prolong Syrian crisis and hinders political solution

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Member of the Executive Council of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) of North and East Syria Ali Rahmoun said that the Turkish military interventions and threats prolong the Syrian crisis and hinder efforts to reach a political solution in the country.

“The situation would become more dangerous if Turkey launched a new operation in northern Syria,” he added. “The new attack would destabilize the region and bring the Syrian crisis back to square one.”

In comments to North Press Agency, Rahmoun stated that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took advantage of the terrorist bombing in Istanbul to carry out attacks on northern Syria and distract Turkish public opinion from the worsening social and economic crises in the country.

He stressed that finding a solution through military means is not possible in any way.

“There is no way other than a political solution that is based on UN resolutions, “he said. “This is what the SDC is working on.”

Rahmoun stressed that the SDC is working to establish a political committee that will work to find a political solution and force the Syrian regime and regional powers to implement it, with support of the international community and world powers.
