Iraqi Prime Minister al-Sudani declares Christmas a national holiday
BAGHDAD — As Christmas and the new years approach, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani declared 25 December an official holiday for all Iraqi state institutions.
Al-Sudani also declared 26 December an official holiday for the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people in Iraq.
Despite the positivity of those decisions for the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people, actual support by the Iraqi parliament and government remains scarce given the failure to enact an official law regarding the religious and national holidays of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people in Iraq.
More support and greater effort is needed to ensure the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people in Iraq can remain and prosper in their historical homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).
