Universal Syriac Union Party President Mrad: Hezbollah insults Lebanese people, constitution, and state with UNIFIL attack

BEIRUT — President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad stated via Facebook that Hezbollah further insults the Lebanese people, constitution, and state with its political obstruction and attack on a UNIFIL patrol in southern Lebanon..

Mrad believes that the failure of the continued parliamentary sessions to elect a new president is proof that Hezbollah and its allies are intentionally paralyzing the election.

“Hezbollah and its allies try to impose their will and wait for external settlements that increase their control and bring a president that serves their interests,” he stated.

Mrad renewed his call to the sovereignist political parties and MPs to support the demand of the Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rai to hold an international conference on Lebanon and implement international resolutions, especially those related to the withdrawal of militia weapons.

Mrad declared that Hezbollah’s main goal is to break the spirit of the sovereignists and make them surrender to its project or force them to emigrate.

“The confrontation will continue and we will not surrender, despite sacrifices,” Mrad added.

Mrad also denounced the attack on a UNIFIL patrol in the Hezbollah dominated Aqabiya area in southern Lebanon which led to the death of an Irish soldier and the wounding of three others.

He considered it a clear and repeated message from Hezbollah to the entire international community that it is the actual political and security authority in Lebanon and that everyone must accept this situation otherwise killing and assassinations will be the fate of everyone who reject it.
