Human rights organizations in North and East Syria organize consultative seminar on human rights violations in the region
HASAKAH, Syria ꟷ Against the background of the Turkish attacks in North and East Syria, and the killing and flagrant violations of human rights they cause, the Human Rights Organization in Gozarto (Jazira) Region, the Lawyers Union in North and East Syria, the Human Rights Organization in Cafrin (Afrin), and the Center for Research and Protection of Women’s Rights in Syria held a consultative symposium on human rights violations in North and East Syria in Marbella Hall in Hasakah.
A number of officials and representatives of the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo DꞌBethnahrin, MUB), the External Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA), the Center for Syriac Strategic Studies, and a number of Syrian jurists participated in the symposium.
During the symposium, consultant researcher of the Center for Syriac Strategic Studies Kino Gabriel spoke about the violations occurring in North and East Syria, the reality of the human rights situation in the region, and the need to work on spreading awareness on this subject, as it is linked to the building a healthy, democratic society.
The Director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) Rami Abdul-Rahman and Co-Chair of the Foreign Relation Commission Badran Jia Kurd presented a set of reports and interventions about Turkish violations in the areas it occupies. The continued Turkish attacks on the region violate international humanitarian law and indiscriminately target civilians, they stated. They also discussed steps that can be taken to ensure justice is secured for the Turkish attacks.
The symposium concluded with a closing statement in which the DAA stressed facilitating and assisting the work of the concerned organizations in North and East Syria.
