NORTH AND EAST SYRIA: Christmas carnivals held in Beth Zalin and Dayrik

BETH ZALIN, DAYRIK, Syria — On Friday, the Syriac Progressive Youth Union in Syria held a Christmas carnival that toured the different neighborhoods of Beth Zalin (Qamishli) in North and East Syria.

The event started at the building of the Progressive Syriac Youth Union, where youth members and large crowds of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and other peoples of the Gozarto (Jazira) Region had gathered.

The carnival included carols and the distribution of gifts to the children, in addition to folkloric dances in the squares of the various neighborhoods in the city.

In related news, various institutions of Syriac people in Dayrik, with the city’s Christian residents, held a Christmas carnival that started at the Syriac Orthodox Mor Dodo Church and toured the neighborhoods.

Gifts were distributed to the children, amid Christmas carols and folklore songs. The Syriac Church Scouts in Dayrik gave a performance.

The Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) secured these festivals in all towns of the Gozarto (Jazira) region.
