NORTH AND EAST SYRIA: Sutoro delegation visits heads of churches in Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria — On Christmas, a joint delegation from the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) and Sutoro Women visited heads of churches in Hasakah in North and East Syria.

The delegation visited the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih, the Archbishop of the Assyrian Church of the East in Syria Mor Aphrem Athaniel, and Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Joseph Shimei.

They discussed the Christian presence in the region, its importance and the challenges facing Christians in general. The role of churches in supporting the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people to adhere to their homeland was also touched upon.

The Sutoro delegation briefed the bishops about their work and efforts to protect the regions of North and East Syria, especially during the several events of the holiday period.

The archbishops praised the Sutoro efforts in protecting the Syriac people and churches from any destabilizing terrorist acts.
