Syriac Catholic Patriarch Younan and Catholicos-Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel offer condolences to Pope Francis on passing of Pope Benedict
BEIRUT / BAGHDAD — Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan and Catholicos-Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel offered their heartfelt condolences to Pope Francis on the passing of Pope Benedict XVI. They stated that the world will continue to remember the former Pope as a living example of service to the Church.
Former Pope Benedict XVI passed away on 31 December 2022.
Patriarch Younan offered his heartfelt condolences to Pope Francis on behalf of the Syriac Catholic Church. He prayed for the Pope’s health and well-being so he can continue in his service to the Church.
Patriarch Younan asked all members of clergy and the faithful in all Syriac Catholic dioceses to raise their prayers and offer Mass as a relief for the soul of Pope Benedict.
Catholicos-Patriarch Mar Awa III Royel offered his deep condolences to Pope Francis and the clergy and believers of the Roman Catholic Church on the passing of Pope Benedict XVI.
He stated that the world will always remember Pope Benedict, his majestic personality as a great theologian, and as an exemplary Christian who put the Church above himself. He will always be remembered as an exemplary and faithful shepherd, Catholicos-Patriarch Mar Awa III Royel concluded.
