French Senate recognizes the 1915 Sayfo Genocide of Syriacs-Arameans-Assyrians-Chaldeans
PARIS – By 302 votes to 2, the French Senate today recognized the genocide of Syriacs-Arameans-Assyrians-Chaldeans. Senators Valérie Boyer and Bruno Retailleau submitted a resolution on February 22, 2022, asking the Senate to acknowledge the genocide committed committed by the Ottoman Empire against the Syriac-Aramean-Assyrian-Chaldean people in the years 1915-1918.
Senator Bruno Retailleau called the recognition of the genocide of the Syriacs-Arameans-Assyrians-Chaldeans an act of resistance; “As with the Armenian genocide, we are speaking out in memory of a people, but we are also learning the lessons of history, for the future of all of us.”
The resolution makes no mention of the Kafno famine on the Syriac Maronites in Lebanon.
