NINEVEH PLAINS: Mar Matta scouts in Bartella get new leader
BARTELLA, Iraq – The Mar Matta scouts in Bartella have a new scout leader. After a meeting attended by Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Mor Musa al-Şamani, Medin Khaled Ishaq was chosen as the new leader for the scouts established by the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch on Sept. 16, 2022.
The meeting determined the scouts’ program for the special church days of 2023 and which activities in the Nineveh Plain the scouts will participate in.
Medin Khaled Ishaq will be in charge of the day-to-day operations and, together with the clergy, will have the important holidays under his direction.
The town of Bartella is home to 1,723 Syriac families and some 400 Shabak families. Before the occupation by the terrorist organization of Islamic State there were 3,200 Syriac families.
