Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Rai meets with Sovereign Front for Lebanon delegation to discuss presidential election
BETH KERKE, Lebanon — Yesterday, Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Butros al-Rai met with a delegation from the Sovereign Front for Lebanon at the patriarchal edifice in Beth Kerke (Bkerke). The delegation, headed by MP Camille Chamoun, included several Front members.
During the meeting, they discussed recent developments in Lebanon, particularly the issue of electing a new president, which has devolved into a protracted political crisis.
They emphasized the need for a Syriac Maronite president who would gain the confidence of the Syriac Maronite community, as well as other denominations. They also emphasized that the president should be a sovereign, non-aligned leader who works for Lebanon and its future.
The delegation called for a constitutional and democratic electoral process and urged everyone to participate in the parliamentary process to elect a president. “We want a president who can rebuild the state on sovereign and reformist foundations, leading to a final solution to the crisis in Lebanon,” the delegation added.
This visit was part of a series of visits that the Sovereign Front is making to all powers in Lebanon to find a way out of the impasse and elect a worthy president for Lebanon.
In other news, Patriarch al-Rai received a delegation from the associations of basic, secondary, and vocational education. They discussed the challenges facing the academic year and the situation that the entire educational staff is suffering from.
