Administration of North and East Syria and Democratic Union Party condemn vandalism of Sayfo Genocide Memorial in Beth Zalin, North and East Syria

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Executive Council of Gozarto (Jazira) Region in the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria and the General Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) strongly denounced the vandalism of the Sayfo Genocide Memorial in Beth Zalin (Qamishli) on Saturday.

Talaat Yunis, Co-Chair of the DAA Executive Council in Gozarto Region, denounced the vandalism, calling it an attack on the security, stability, and coexistence among the ethnic and religious components of the region. He emphasized that such acts will not discourage the DAA from continuing to protect their gains and ordered the concerned authorities to investigate the matter and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The PYD General Council also issued a statement condemning the vandalism. The statement noted that the memorial represents the historic suffering of an indigenous ethnic component in Syria. The Syriac people have established balanced relations and coexistence with other components of the region that the tyrannical authorities and regimes of oppression seek to undermine, it continued.

The PYD called upon all the ethnic components of the region to unite and preserve the progress achieved with the blood of thousands of martyrs, standing together against all attempts by hostile and subversive groups.

The party further called on the DAA security to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
