Another Australian MP calls for recognition of the 1915 Sayfo Genocide

SYDNEY — In February 2022, the Joint Justice Initiative was launched by the Armenian National Alliance, Assyrian Universal Alliance — Australian Chapter, and Greek Council in Australia. The initiative seeks recognition from the Australian government for the genocide perpetrated against the Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), Armenians, and Greeks in 1915 by the Ottoman Empire and its allies.

Australian MP Kylea Tink recently expressed her support for the initiative and emphasized the urgency for the federal government to acknowledge the genocide. Tink, who was elected for North Sydney in 2022, pledged to carry on the efforts of her predecessor former MP Trent Zimmerman, who also supports the recognition of the Sayfo Genocide.

Tink has supported the Armenian community in the Nagorno-Karabakh dossier, further demonstrating her commitment to justice and human rights. To date, the Common Justice Initiative has received the backing of over 30 Australian MPs.

On 25 February, the Armenian National Alliance, Assyrian Universal Federation, and Greek Council in Australia held a cultural event during which they gathered signatures from members of Parliament, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and individuals from political, academic, and media circles calling for the recognize of the Sayfo Genocide.
