Syriac officials extends Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year Akitu congratulations

BETH NAHRIN — On the advent of Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year Akitu, Syriac officials extended congratulations to the Syriac (Aramean- Chaldean-Assyrian) people.

Co-Chief of the U.S. Mission of the Syrian Democratic Council in Washington, D.C. and Head of the Syriac National Council of Syria Bassam Ishak offered Akitu congratulations to the Syriac people, indicating that Akitu symbolizes Syriac culture, civilization and deep roots in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).

In comments to our news desk, Ishak stated: “For us in the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), peoples’ holidays such as Akitu, Newroz and others express the mentality that established the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) in North and East Syria.

They reflect the mentality that recognizes identities of the peoples who have historical roots in this region in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).”

Ishaq added these holidays express their convictions that the future Syria must be pluralistic and based on recognition of its diversity.

He declared that celebrating such holidays reflects pluralism and respect for the other, and conveys a message to the peoples that the Syriac people adhere to their ancestors’ homeland and their historical civilizational and culture.

It also reflects that the Syriac people continue in partnership with the rest of the peoples to build this region.

Co-Chair of the Syriac Youth Progressive Union in Syria Sobhi Malki, in turn, congratulated the Syriac people on Akitu.

“From our historical homeland of Beth Nahrin, we say: Akitu Brikho, and we demand freedom for the Syriac leader Saeed Malki,” he stated.

Co-Chair of the Syriac Youth Progressive Union in Syria Mariana Issa also extended Akitu congratulations to the Syriac people.

“In this month, in which we celebrate life and joy, including the Akitu, we congratulate the Syriac people and wish success for all,” she added.
