IRAQ: Mor Gorgis Festival held and Mor Kyriakos Center opened in villages of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people
TEL SKUF, BATNAYA, Iraq — In the presence of Chaldean Archbishop of Alqosh Mor Michael Makdisi, clerics and social personalities, the 5th Mor Gorgis Festival was held in the Mor Gorgis Church in Tel Sukf village in the Nineveh Plains.
The festival was held under the slogan,” Always Rejoice.”
The opening included a welcoming speech by archbishop Fares Yaqo. Then, Archbishop Bulos Thabet delivered a social lecture entitled “Joy”, followed by hymns performed by the Tel Skuf and Alqosh Choirs.
The attendees then moved to Mor Ephrem Hall that included art exhibitions and poetry readings.
In other news, the Mor Kyriakos Center for Community of Love and Joy was inaugurated in Batnaya village, Nineveh Plain.
The event was attended by Chaldean Archbishop Bulos Thabet, Spiritual Guide of Community of Love and Joy Archbishop Shlimon Wardouni, priests and a group of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people.
After the ribbon was cut, an olive tree (Nishan al-Salam) was planted and candle of love was lit. Then, a special prayer was recited to bless the water, branches and center.
Speeches were delivered and appreciation shields were distributed to those who contributed to the establishment of this center.
