Chinese sociologist researcher explores achievements of Syriac women in North and East Syria during visit to Bethnahrin National Council

ZALIN, Syria — Dr. Yushan, a sociologist researcher from southwestern China, visited the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, to gain insight into the situation of women among the ethnic components.

Upon her arrival, she was warmly welcomed by Sabah Shabo, a member of the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB), who accompanied her to the headquarters of the Syriac Cultural Association, the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU), and the Syriac Progressive Youth Union.

During her visit to the SWU headquarters, Yushan engaged in discussions with Georgette Barsoum, an official of the SWU in Zalin, along with other SWU members. They extensively reviewed the advancements made by Syriac women in various spheres, including politics, economics, society, and even the military domain.

Yushan’s visit is part of her ongoing PhD research focusing on Syrian women in North and East Syria, particularly those involved in the military sector.
