Syriac Cultural Association commemorates 15th anniversary of its founding in Hasakah, North and East Syria
HASAKAH, Syria — On 18th May, an event was held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of founding the Syriac Cultural Association in Nasira neighborhood, in Hasakah, North and East Syria.
The event was attended by representatives of institutions of Bethnahrin (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) National Council, representatives of political parties in the region, writers and artists from various ethnic components, and a large gathering of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people.
The celebration began with a minute of silence for the souls of the righteous martyrs, followed by a performance by the Association Scout Troupe.
Then, the Association’s official Ibrahim Adamo delivered a speech about the Association’s founding, its work and role in preserving the Syriac heritage. He also briefed the Association’s future work.
The Inana Choir presented folkloric songs and the Syriac poet Michel Philo recited a poem in Syriac.
After that, the Association Folklore Band presented a folkloric performance. The Syriac poet Zerin Butros also recited a poem about the ancient history of Syriac people.
The event was concluded with a documentary, which presented the Association’s work since its founding so far.
