North and East Syria calls for good relations with neighboring countries, including Turkey, but expresses opposition to expansionist policies
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Attia al-Huwaidi, the Deputy Co-Chair of the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), expressed the administration’s disinterest in the Turkish elections, emphasizing their desire for positive and neighborly relations with Turkey despite who heads the Turkish government.
Al-Huwaidi stated their opposition to Turkish policies that seek to expand its territory at the expense of Syrian land, with ambitions reminiscent of the Ottoman Empire’s past glories.
Expressing hope for the understanding of the newly-elected president and changes in Turkey, Al-Huwaidi called for a recognition of the current situation and the importance of fostering good neighborly ties.
Furthermore, he declared that the AANES has evolved into an indispensable party, necessitating its involvement in any discussions pertaining to a solution in Syria.
