European Syriac Union extends invitation for Sayfo Genocide commemoration, calls for active participation by Syriac institutions and organizations

BRUSSELS — The European Syriac Union (ESU) issued a statement urging all Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) institutions and organizations to actively participate in the upcoming Sayfo Genocide commemoration on 15 June.

ESU has meticulously prepared for the remembrance, scheduled to commence on 14 June at 11:00 p.m. (Central European Time) in Brussels.

The commemorative activities will commence with a gathering in front of the Sayfo Genocide monument, where participants will pay their respects to the martyrs by lighting candles and torches.

The ESU encourages all Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) individuals to light candles wherever they may be and capture these poignant moments through videos shared on social media platforms.

The event will be broadcast via Suroyo TV and participants can liaise with the channel to have their participation featured.

To raise global awareness about the plight of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, ESU plans to screen two documentaries on the Genocide: “Souls In Transit”, directed by Aida Schlafer, and “Sayfo 1915”, directed by activist Altan Sinjar from Turkey.

The ESU has graciously offered Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) institutions and organizations the opportunity to screen the documentary free of charge. Interested parties can contact ESU officials for further details.

“It is necessary for all Syriac people to participate in the events that will be held by institutions and political parties of Syriac people,” ESU stated.
