Girls football team formed in Qabre Hewore, North and East Syria
QABRE HEWORE, North and East Syria — The Syriac Progressive Youth Union in Syria announced forming a girls football team in Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniya), North and East Syria.
The team, which includes17 players of different ages, was called the “Babylon Sports Team.”
The Syriac Progressive Youth Union stated that the Syriac (Aramean-Assyrian-Chaldean) women and girls succeeded in all aspects of life, including football.
“The players received several trainings under the supervision of coach Nahir Muro. They played their first match with the Syriac Youth Team and the girls team won the match,” the Union added.
In comment to our news desk, Co-Chair of the Syriac Progressive Youth Union Sobhi Malki stated that forming a girls team is a very important step in involving women and girls in sports activities.
“Forming a girls team also reflects that football is not restricted to men only,” he continued, indicating that they are to form other girls football teams in all areas of the region,” Malki added.
