Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Rai: Politicians are responsible for poverty and displacement of Lebanese people
BETH KERKE, Lebanon — During his sermon on Sunday, Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros Al-Rai said that the Lebanese state is disintegrating due to the stubbornness of some politicians and their prioritizing of their personal interests over the interest of the people and Lebanon.
He indicated that the process of electing a Lebanon’s next president should be simple and the parliament must implement a constitution that stipulates Lebanon is a parliamentary democratic republic.
Al-Rai raised prayers for the people of Lebanon, whose situation is getting worse because of the neglect of politicians who have degraded the country’s capabilities. They are responsible for impoverishing the people of Lebanon, humiliating them, and displacing them from their homeland, said the Patriarch.
Lebanon continues to suffer from political and economic crises while the Office of the Presidency remains vacant. Elections have been suspended since the end of the term of former President Michel Aoun.
