Olaf Taw Association for Syriac Language concludes summer school activity with celebration

ZALIN, Syria — The Olaf Taw Association for Syriac Language, under the auspices of the Education Authority of North and East Syria, organized a celebration for children to mark the conclusion of its month-long summer school activities at the Zalka Kindergarten in Zalin (Qamishli). The event featured engaging speeches, delightful music and singing, and the distribution of gifts to the children.

The celebration was attended by administrative and educational representatives from Olaf Taw and the Zalka Kindergarten, as well as parents whose children had participated in the course throughout the month of June.

The festivities commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Josefine Soume, an Olaf Taw official in Zalin and the supervisor of the course. She expressed gratitude to the parents for their cooperation in sending their children to learn the Syriac language, the language of their ancestors. Soume also extended her thanks to the teachers for their dedicated efforts during the course.

Jacqueline Saliba, another Olaf Taw official, emphasized the institution’s commitment to organizing activities that support and preserve the Syriac language, while nurturing children’s talents and facilitating their holistic development. Saliba reaffirmed the association’s dedication to imparting knowledge that enhances the children’s personalities and cognitive abilities.

During the celebration, the children presented Syriac national and folk songs. The kindergarten was adorned with paintings and drawings displaying phrases written in the Syriac language, all of which were created by the children. Additionally, an exhibition showcasing the handicrafts crafted by the children during the course added to the festivities.

As the celebration drew to a close, the course supervisors distributed gifts to all the children who had participated, prompting parents to express their gratitude to the Olaf Taw Association for its efforts throughout the past month.

The Olive Taw Association has been organizing school activities every year in June, offering lessons in both the Syriac and English languages, engaging children in drawing and handicrafts, facilitating water games and educational competitions, as well as incorporating singing and folklore. Furthermore, each week concludes with recreational outdoor activities, including trips to various destinations, visits to swimming pools, and other engaging pursuits. All these activities are conducted under the guidance of specialized teachers with expertise in teaching and nurturing children.
