Chaldean Patriarch Sako withdraws from the Patriarchal Residence in Baghdad, Iraq
BAGHDAD — Chaldean Patriarch Mor Louis Raphael Sako issued a letter that announces his withdrawal from the Patriarchal Residence in Baghdad to the Kurdistan region of Iraq, following the Republican Decree issued against him.
The letter was addressed to the Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, the Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, as well as the Christian and Iraqi people.
The letter stipulated that the Patriarch Sako decided to withdraw from the Patriarchal Residence in Baghdad and move to one of the monasteries in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), without mentioning any details about the location or name of the monastery.
The Patriarch added that all these heavy and fateful events, as well as his summon to the investigation court as “accused” continues, while the abuser is known, free and protected.
Patriarch Sako declared that the last decision came to protect the Iraqi constitution and the Iraqi diversity.
The Patriarch expressed his regret that the Iraqi people live amid a wide network of narrow self-interests, which have produced unprecedented political, national and moral chaos.
