Church of Mor Quryakos in Zalin, Syria celebrates feast of Mor Quryakos
ZALIN, Syria — On the feast of Mor Quryakos, a Holy Liturgy was held in Church of Mor Quryakos in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria.
The event was presided over by Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih, assisted by priests and deacons.
The event was also attended by Church Local Council in Zalin, church institutions representatives and a crowd of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people.
In his sermon, the archbishop spoke about Mor Quryakos faith and spiritual struggle, as well as the meanings of this feast, calling on the faithful to adhere to their faith and homeland.
In comments to our news desk, priest of the church Zakaria Masoud declared that this feast stresses the importance of mothers’ role in upbringing their children, like Yuliti, the mother of Mor Quryakos.
He also blessed all those who bear the name of Mor Quryakos.
The priest added that the Syriac people in the homeland and diaspora still celebrate their spiritual holidays festivals.
