Stichting Schlomo and Syriac Cross helping to rebuild lives of people affected by devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria

HATAY, Turkey — Amid the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February 2023, the Syriac relief organizations Stichting Schlomo and the Syrian Cross Organization for Relief and Development have been diligently working to support the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities affected.

Beyond critical aid and food baskets, these organizations have taken a step further by initiating the construction of houses and shops, with the aim of creating job opportunities for the affected families.

In a recent project, both organizations came together to build a shop for one of the families who had lost both their livelihood and their home during the earthquake. The shop was constructed near the Samandağ hospital.

Thanks to the unwavering support of these organizations, the Sibyl family, who had faced the distressing loss of their home and means of income, now have the chance to start anew. They have been empowered to open a sweets-making shop, paving the way for a brighter future.

Schlomo and Syriac Cross have made it clear that they are committed to continuously assisting the families who have been deeply impacted by the earthquake. Their ongoing efforts serve as a beacon of hope in these trying times, providing vital support and aid to those in need.

As the regions of Turkey and Syria continue to recover from the disastrous effects of the earthquake, the dedication and compassion shown by these organizations are sure to make a significant and positive difference in the lives of the affected families. The resilience and strength of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities shine through amidst adversity, and with the continued support of such relief organizations, a path to recovery and stability is being forged.
