Iraqi provincial elections to be held on 18 December, Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties discuss possibility of unified list
BAGHDAD — On 18 October, the electoral campaign for the Iraqi provincial elections will kick off, leading up to the voting process set for 18 December.
Discussions are underway between Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties and organizations to run in the provincial elections with a unified list, emphasizing the need for a Christian consensus.
Imad Jamil, the head of the press team at the Independent High Commission for Iraqi Elections, confirmed to Rudaw Media Network the dates for the electoral campaign, stating, “The electoral campaign in the provincial elections will begin on October 18, 2023, and will conclude 24 hours before the start of the voting process on December 18, 2023.”
The upcoming elections will cover governorates including Nineveh, Diyala, Salah al-Din, and Kerkeslokh (Kirkuk). Notably, it will be the first time that Kerkeslokh participates in provincial council elections since 2005.
