Bethnahrin National Council highlights Syriac heritage and cuisine at Locarno Film Festival booths
LOCARNO, Switzerland — The annual Locarno Film Festival, which will run until 12 August, saw active participation from the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB). At the festival, the MUB set up special food stalls featuring a variety of dishes, including traditional Syriac cuisine, meticulously prepared and served by local members. The aim was to shine a spotlight on the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, their heritage, and their contributions both in the homeland and the diaspora.
The festival, known for showcasing new films and celebrating excellence in cinema, attracts thousands of attendees from different nationalities each year.
The MUB is made up of members from around the world who actively engage in advocating for the freedom of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people. They use platforms like the Locarno Film Festival to raise awareness and garner support on the international stage while also contributing financially to support their people in the homeland.
