Catholicos-Patriarch of Assyrian Church of the East strengthens relations with UN Mission in Iraq

ERBIL, Iraq — In a bid to enhance ties between the Churches of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people and active relief organizations in Iraq, the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel visited the headquarters of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), on Monday.

The Patriarch was warmly received by the head of the UNAMI Regional Office, Ricardo Rodriguez. During their meeting, they engaged in discussions about the mission’s role in Iraq, as well as the overall situation of Christians and Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians in the country.

As a token of appreciation, the Patriarch presented Rodriguez with a Patriarchal medal and extended an invitation to him to attend the opening ceremonies of the new Patriarchal Cathedral in Erbil, scheduled for early next week.
