Bethnahrin Patriotic Union delegation participates in Simele Massacre commemoration in Iraq
NOHADRA, Iraq — A delegation from the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) participated in commemorating the 1933 Simele Massacres committed against the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people in Iraq.
The commemoration included a Divine Liturgy presided over by Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel in the Martyrs’ Church in Simele District in Nohadra (Duhok).
The Mass was attended by members of clergy, representatives of various national institutions of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people, and a large gathering of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian public, in addition to the participation of delegations from the United States, Europe, Australia, and Russia.
The HBA conducted a visit to Tel al-Shuhadaa (Martyrs’ Hill) in Simele, the site that houses the remains of the Simele martyrs.
