President of International Religious Freedom Secretariat Nadine Maenza visits Syriac Union Party in Tel Tamr, North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria — President of the International Religious Freedom Secretariat and former Chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) Nadine Maenza visited the Tel Tamr branch of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in North and East Syria to address the key challenges faced by the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.

Upon arrival her arrival in Tel Tamr, Maenza was warmly welcomed by SUP Co-Chair Nazira Goreya, SUP Executive Committee Member Afram Ishaq, and SUP Council Member Simon Gerges.

The meeting focused on the most pressing challenges to religious freedom in Syria and threats to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in the country.

They also discussed the issue of demographic changes in the Khabur River Valley and the danger to the characteristics of the predominantly Syriac–Assyrian region.
