Syriac Union Party in Syria issues a statement on 12th anniversary of arresting Syriac leader Saeed Malki
ZALIN, Syria— The August 12 marks the 10th anniversary of arresting comrade Saeed Malki, a leader of the Syriac Union Party (SUP), by the Syrian regime. Malki was arrested in 2013, at the Zalin (Qamishli) Airport in Syria, and his fate is still unknown.
On this anniversary, the SUP issued a statement to the public opinion, in which it noted that the fate of comrade Malki is still unknown, like tens of thousands of Syrian detainees, whose fate has not been disclosed until today.
The SUP confirmed its strong condemnation of the Syrian regime’s failure to disclose Malki’s fate, stressing the need for the regime to cooperate with the relevant UN agencies to disclose the fate of the detainees and forcibly absentees.
With regard to the situation in Syria, the SUP statement emphasized the necessity to activate the relevant UN resolutions on Syria, including Resolution No. 2254, with ensuring the broad participation of all Syrian parties in all steps of a political solution, building a democratic, pluralistic and decentralized Syria, as well as drafting a new constitution that meets the demands of all Syrians for rights and freedoms.
The SUP pledged to follow the path of its founders, including leader Saeed Malki, in addition to adhering to values of righteous martyrs.
The SUP also confirmed continuing struggle until achieving its national goals, so that Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people enjoy a free life and full rights within their homeland Syria.
