Bethnahrin National Council institutions organize demonstration to reveal fate of forcefully disappeared Syriac leader Saeedd Malki
ZALIN, Syria — Renewing their demand for the fate of illegally arrested Syriac leader Saeed Malki to be revealed, the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) held a rally in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Malki’s arrest.
The demonstration began in front of the headquarters of the Syriac Cultural Society and made its way through the city, repeating slogans of condemnation at arbitrary arrests and demanding that Malki’s fate be revealed by the Syrian regime.
Suroyo TV interviewed Syriac Union Party (SUP) Co-Chair Sanhrib Barsom on the demonstration. Barsom stated that the Syrian regime wanted to undermine the organizations of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people by arresting many party members, but leader Saeed Malki was arrested in an attempt to break their will and and resolve.
Co-Chair of the Syriac Progressive Youth Sobhi Malki, also speaking with Suroyo TV, said that leader Malki worked to establish MUB institutions in Syria, including the Syriac Progressive Youth Union.
Malki called for the immediate release of Malki and all prisoners of conscience in Syria.
Member of the Administrative Committee of the Syriac Cultural Society Armen Mardo commented that Malki was one of the founders of the Syriac Cultural Society, established many organizational principles in MUB institutions, and worked to unify the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean).
