Commander of US Central Command makes important visit to North and East Syria
AL-HOL, Syria — Emphasizing the ongoing partnership between local partners in North and East Syria to defeat the Islamic State (ISIS), Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) Lieutenant General Michael “Erik” Kurilla visited Al-Hol and Roj camps in North and East Syria.
According to CENTCOM, the visit included meetings with camp officials and residents to learn about the humanitarian conditions in the camp, continuous improvements in camp security, rehabilitation efforts, as well as the return of residents to their areas and their integration.
“Our ongoing efforts to return the camp residents to their countries of origin not only strengthen security and stability in the region, but more importantly, it alleviates this humanitarian challenge,” Kurilla stressed, indicating that efforts of the US, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and the US-led International Coalition remain focused and committed to ISIS lasting defeat, while addressing the humanitarian and security challenges in the camps in North and East Syria.
Kurilla met with the SDF and discussed the ongoing campaign to defeat ISIS and the continuation of humanitarian assistance efforts in the region.
