Christian Front of Lebanon calls for increase in number of UNFIL forces to ensure stability
BEIRUT — In a bid to ensure stability and security within Lebanon’s borders, the Christian Front has called for sovereign representatives, parties, and both religious and national authorities to unite under a document to be submitted to the United Nations. The document will emphasize the imperative need to bolster the presence of international emergency forces, specifically the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which would work in conjunction with the Lebanese Army.
The Christian Front envisions these international forces being endowed with comprehensive powers, enabling them to actively secure the nation’s stability, thwart territorial attacks, and prevent the influx of Syrian refugees into Lebanon. This influx is largely attributed to the dire circumstances propagated by the economic downturn, widespread hunger, and increasing poverty resulting from the activities of the Syrian regime and Iranian militias. These factors have collectively precipitated a substantial flow of Syrians into Lebanon.
Furthermore, the Christian Front has called upon the Lebanese government to collaborate closely with US Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security Amos Hochstein. This collaboration aims to establish clear border demarcations and eliminate the pretext used by Iranian militias to justify their actions under the banner of “resistance”, thereby violating Lebanon’s sovereignty and appropriating weaponry.
The Christian Front has embarked on proactive engagement with various groups and influential Lebanese figures, lending its staunch support to their unyielding efforts in safeguarding Lebanon’s freedom and sovereignty. With an unwavering faith in the power of the people, the Christian Front hopes that the Lebanese citizens will rise united to assert their rights on the global stage.
