North and East Syria Representative in Europe discusses situation in Syria with member of European Parliament

STRASBOURG — The representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Europe Abdul Karim Omar met with member of European Parliament from Spain (Citizens Party) Javier Nart meeting at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, to discuss efforts and strategies for achieving a political resolution to end the Syrian crisis and alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.

Nart emphasized the significance of involving all Syrian stakeholders in shaping a path towards a political resolution. He commended AANES’s initiatives aimed at advancing the political process, considering them pivotal in expediting a political solution.

Nart also praised the resilient spirit demonstrated by the residents of North and East Syria, as well as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in eradicating the scourge of Islamic State (ISIS) terrorism. He stressed the vital role of the international community in fulfilling its responsibilities by offering the necessary support to North and East Syria. Cooperation between the international community and AANES is important to maintain security and stability, while preventing the resurgence of ISIS terrorism, Nart added.

Omar emphasized the urgency of expediting efforts to attain a political solution that would bring an end to the Syrian crisis. He highlighted that the deteriorating economic and living conditions in Syria were among the key factors contributing to recent protests in various regions of the country.

Omar pointed out that the lack of international interest in the Syrian crisis, coupled with insufficient financial support for the Syrian people, had exacerbated the humanitarian crisis. Additionally, he noted that the international community had not fulfilled its obligations concerning the fair trial of ISIS terrorists, who had perpetrated crimes against humanity in northern and eastern Syria.
