SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi: Multi-party scheme unfolding in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor)
DAYRO ZCURO, Syria — Amidst the escalating clashes and confrontations in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), North and East Syria, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi underscored that the events unfolding in this region are part of a larger scheme involving several actors.
Abdi said that credible information has surfaced confirming the existence of coordinated plans by various forces with the intention of destabilizing Dayro Zcuro. He further disclosed that there is evidence of collaboration between certain tribal leaders and armed groups affiliated with the Syrian regime and Iran.
Regarding the dismissal of former head of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council (DMC) Abu Khawla, Abdi reiterated that he would be held accountable in accordance with the law. This decision comes in response to multiple complaints about his involvement in corrupt practices, which have been brought forth by tribal leaders and military leaders of the DMC.
Abdi firmly asserted that the parties responsible for the attacks on military and security forces in Dayro Zcuro are the same actors who are initiating assaults on Mabbug (Manbij), Tel Tamr, and Ayn Issa in conjunction with Turkish forces.
He also stressed the SDF’s unwavering commitment to preserving the region’s security and expressed the enduring desire for dialogue with all relevant stakeholders. Abdi emphasized that a military solution is not the path forward in Syria. Instead, a resolution must be forged by Syrians themselves, Abdi stated.
In a separate statement, spokesperson for the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS), Matai Hanna, stated that the Turkish-proxy Syrian National Army (SNA) launched offensives in areas along the frontlines. The Internal Security Forces (ISF) of North and East Syria announced the martyrdom of four of its members in the attacks around Mabbug.
The Manbij Military Council also reported it is monitoring a concentration of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants within the northern countryside villages of the Mabbug, which has been evacuated of civilians.
