ZALIN, Syria — In a gathering attended by representatives from youth organizations from across Gozarto (Jazira) Region, North and East Syria, the Youth Committee of the Armenian Social Council partnered with the Syrian Democratic Youth Council to host a lecture shedding light on the plight of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. The discussion highlighted the ongoing genocide faced by its residents, attributed to Azerbaijan with support by Turkey.

Held on Sunday at the Youth City Hall in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, the lecture, Artsakh … A Call for Freedom from the Middle of the Siege, saw the participations of representatives from regional youth institutions, members of the Armenian Social Council, and the Syrian Democratic Council.

The event commenced with a moment of silence in remembrance of martyrs, followed by presentations delivered by Nasser Nasro, the Co-Chair of the Relations Office of the Syrian Democratic Youth Council, and Yegnik Karbo, the Co-Chair of the Armenian Social Council. Attendees also engaged in discussions about the crucial role of youth in bringing an end to the Armenian genocide.

Speaking to Suroyo TV, Rudy Hassan, a member of the Relations Office of the Syrian Democratic Youth Council, emphasized that the lecture aimed to spotlight the violations against the Armenian people. Hassan underscored the historical nature of the conflict between Armenians and the Azerbaijani government, cautioning against being drawn into a conflict that serves private interests, leading to the victimization of innocent civilians. He noted the alleged efforts of Turkey to interfere in the region with aspirations to reconstruct the Ottoman Empire.

Hassan further indicated concerns about Russia’s role, suggesting attempts to instigate conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He claimed that there is an international consensus on the plight of Armenians and their historical extermination.

Losnak Kavorian, the head of the Women’s Committee of the Armenian Social Council, expressed condemnation for the siege of and conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. She decried the international silence surrounding the crimes and accused the Azerbaijani government of being supported by the Turkish occupation state. Kavorian lamented the starvation, killing, and genocide inflicted upon Armenians, especially the youth, in the region.
