Athra Alliance of Iraq protest on 8 October demanding accountability for Baghdede fire will go ahead

BAGHDEDE, Iraq — Amid ongoing religious ceremonies and funeral proceedings for the victims of the devastating wedding hall fire in the Nineveh Plains town of Baghdede (Qaraqosh / Hamdaniya), Iraq, that claimed over 100 Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian lives, the Athra Alliance has announced a public protest to be held on 8 October at 11 AM in Baghdede.

The protest will express the demands of the victim’s families and the people of Nineveh Plains for accountability.

The Athra Alliance is a political coalition of five Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties in Iraq.

According to the Alliance’s statement, the remains of 38 of the victims currently at the forensic medicine office remain identified.
