Syriac Maronite Patriarch meets with Italian Prime Minister
BEIRUT — Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Butros al-Rai met with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni to discuss the current political crisis in Lebanon, particularly the inability of the Lebanese Parliament to elect a new president, during Meloni’s visit to the Patriarchal headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon.
The challenges of the increasing number of displaced Syrians to Lebanon, who constitute 41% of its population, a heavy economic and financial burden, and a political, security and sectarian threat, were also discussed, according to Patriarch al-Rai.
Meloni expressed interest in the situation in Lebanon and promised to work to rid Lebanon of its suffering and crises, noting Lebanon’s distinguished role among the countries of the Middle East.
