Yezidi community displaced from Shigur (Shengal / Sinjar), Iraq, continues voluntary returns
SHIGUR, Iraq — The voluntary return of displaced Yezidis from refugee camps to their native areas in Shigur (Shengal / Sinjar), Iraq, is an ongoing process, made possible through the collaborative efforts of local security forces and the governments of Baghdad and Erbil.
Several days after the return of over 400 Yazidis to their native homes in Shigur from displacement camps in Nohadra (Duhok), Faiq Jabro, the Iraqi Minister of Immigration and Displacement, stated on Tuesday that an additional 170 Yezidis have made the journey back home.
Jabro emphasized that the return of the displaced was entirely voluntary. He further explained that the process was conducted in coordination with the security forces and local governments in Nohadra and Nineveh, with the Joint Operations Command overseeing the operation. The returnees will be provided with essential relief assistance, Jabro added.
Jabro concluded by affirming that, within the next few days, more groups of displaced people from the Nohadra camps are expected to follow suit in returning to their hometowns in Shigur.
