Democratic Nation Culture Festival embodies cultural diversity of North and East Syria

TEL BRAK, Syria — Under the slogan” In Spirit of Democratic Nation, We Will Defend North and East Syria”, Democratic Nation Culture Festival kicked off Tel Brak, Hasakah.

The two-days festival was organized by the Culture Authority of the Gozarto (Jazira) Region of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It included all ethnic components of the region, in addition to representatives of civil, cultural and military institutions.

Four tents were set up for the ethnic components of the region, including Syriacs, Armenians, Arabs and Kurds.

The festival began with a minute of silence for the souls of the martyrs.

In comments to our news desk, Deputy Co-Chair of Culture Authority of the Gozarto (Jazira) Region Maria Aho stated that this festival is the first of its kind, and it includes all the ethnic components of the region to express their adherence to coexistence.

“The festival includes musical, literary and folklore performances, and heritage tents for each ethnic component to display its heritage, food, costumes, tools,” Aho added.

Official of the Syriac Cultural Association in Zalin (Qamishli) Istifan Masoud spoke about the Association participation that included folkloric singing and dancing.

During the festival, he delivered a speech, which confirmed the importance of bringing peoples closer to each other.
