Men in Kobane, North and East Syria, march in solidarity with women as International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women approaches
KOBANE, Syria — On Wednesday, demonstrating a commitment to an open and egalitarian society in North and East Syria, a march was organized in Kobane where hundreds of men joined together in solidarity with women on the eve of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Under the rallying cry “Against All Forms of Violence and Occupation — Women, Life, Freedom”, the march brought together participants from various sections of society, including members and administrators of the institutions of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), as well as representatives from political parties in Euphrates Region.
Addressing the gathering, Ahmed Khoja, representing the Democratic Union Party (Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat, PYD), underscored the significance of the day in challenging the dominance of male power over women. He emphasized that this pivotal moment should be seized to break free from such dominance, paving the way toward liberation and the construction of a society rooted in freedom.
Khoja further emphasized the historic opportunity for women to assert themselves in public life and ensure their rights, urging them to play an active role in shaping a society that upholds equality and justice.
