Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Chamoun installed as Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli

BAUCHRIEH, Lebanon — On 26 November 2023, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II presided over the Installation of Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Chamoun at St. Jacob of Serug in Bauchrieh, Lebanon.

The service included a procession where three archbishops escorted the newly appointed archbishop among the people. Then, the sustatikon (commendation letter) was read proclaiming Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Chamoun as Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli.

The Archbishop Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Chamoun delivered a speech in which he thanked the Lord for his new responsibility. He also thanked the former Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli and Patriarchal Advisor Mor Theophilus Georges Saliba for his great services over the decades.

The archbishop pledged to work for the good of the church and believers.

Twelve archbishops from the Syriac Orthodox dioceses of Syria, Lebanon, the Holy Land, and India participated in the rite.

Representatives of patriarchs of various Churches in Lebanon, along with officials of political, social, and cultural organizations, including President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon Ibrahim Mrad also attended the event.

An icon of the Virgin Mary was presented to Patriarchal Adviser Archbishop George Saliba by Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, in recognition of his long service to the parishioners of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli.
