Berlin conference addresses Administration in North and East Syria and Syriac Union Party’s role
BERLIN — In a collaborative effort, the Berlin Representation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) joined with the German Orient-Institute and the European Syriac Union (ESU) for a conference in Berlin focusing on insights from key figures, including Badran Jia Kurd, Co-Chair of the AANES Foreign Relations Commission, and Nazira Goreya, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria.
Attended by German parliamentarians, scholars, researchers, and journalists, the conference, moderated by Dr. Andreas Reinecke, Director of the German Orient-Institute, commenced with Badran Jia Kurd addressing the structure of the AANES system in the region.
Jia Kurd also discussed the challenges posed by the Islamic State (ISIS) families in camps, emphasizing the urgent need for solutions. He also highlighted the damaging impact of Turkish attacks on the region.
Goreya then outlined the history and contributions of the SUP, a co-founding party of AANES, within the governance framework. She detailed the party’s involvement in forming military, political, social, and humanitarian aid institutions.
Goreya also brought attention to the crimes committed by Turkey, which has a profound negative effect on the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, eroding their hope for stability and leading to significant emigration.
During the Q&A session, attendees posed questions about the challenges faced by AANES. Both Jia Kurd and Goreya emphasized the administration’s readiness to collaborate with countries to find solutions. Goreya addressed the difficulties encountered by the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in the region and emphasized the need for support to ensure their survival in their ancestral homeland.
The conference concluded with the European Syriac Union presenting the German version of the book “History of Our People” as a token of appreciation to the director of the German Orient-Institute.
