USUP President Mrad urges defense of Lebanon’s sovereignty amidst multiple crises

BEIRUT — In the midst of Lebanon’s deepening crises, exacerbated by the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon and Secretary General of the Christian Front, reiterated a crucial message from his 24 July speech commemorating Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) martyrs in Lebanon. Mrad shared the passage on Facebook, addressing the challenges faced by the Lebanese people, particularly Christian Syriac (Aramean–Assyrians–Chaldean) citizens, mirroring the current state of affairs in the country.

In his speech, Mrad emphasized the imperative for the Lebanese people, especially those in positions of authority, to defend the nation, its people, and their rights against perceived treacherous elements. He accused certain classes of attempting to compromise Lebanon’s existence, martyrs, history, and land in favor of the Iranian occupier, driven by personal gains and ambitions.

Mrad dismissed the likelihood of success for these classes, asserting that their pursuits are built on fragile and unsustainable foundations. He strongly condemned the pursuit of positions if it involves compromising human dignity, stating, “Damn for assuming those positions if they will strip human dignity.”

Furthermore, Mrad asserted that any Christian who, for their own benefit, sell out martyrs, saints, values, and principles to align with Iranian-backed Hezbollah and other corrupt elements in Lebanon, should be deemed a conspiratorial agent and a traitor to the nation’s history, values, and the blood of martyrs.
