Catholicos-Patriarch of Assyrian Church of East meets with Director of Religious Freedom Institute’s Middle East Action Team

ANKAWA, Iraq — On Sunday, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel met with Jeremy Barker, Director of the Religious Freedom Institute’s Middle East Action Team at the Patriarchate’s headquarters in Ankawa, Iraq.

The meeting was attended by Florine Gorgis, Director of the Department of Religious and Ethnic Components Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRI).

Issues of common interest were discussed, including religious freedom in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), and the Middle East in general.

The Patriarch and Barker also explored the underlying factors contributing to the emigration of Christians from their homelands in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

The conversation also delved into the initiatives and programs implemented by the Religious Freedom Institute to advance religious freedom and foster coexistence among the ethnic components of the KRI. The meeting underscored the shared commitment to promoting tolerance and harmony within the region.
