ISIS launches deadly attack in Diyala, Iraq, Iraqi forces launch counter-terror operation in response

DIYALA, Iraq — The Islamic State (ISIS) executed a violent attack in Diyala, Iraq, situated in the north of the country, killing 11 civilians and wounding over a dozen others, according to regional security sources. President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) Nechirvan Barzani strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing the grave threat posed by terrorism and calling for enhanced capabilities to combat such threats.

ISIS militants orchestrated the assault using a car bomb and sniper fire targeting civilians, as reported by Police spokesman Haitham al-Jubouri. Diyala Governor Muthanna al-Tamimi underscored ongoing efforts to prevent future attacks in Muqdadiya and pledged accountability for the perpetrators.

In response to this act of terrorism, the Iraqi Air Force swiftly conducted air strikes on ISIS locations in Tuz Khurmatu, Salah al-Din Governorate, based on intelligence information. The military operation resulted in the elimination of terrorists, along with the destruction of their weapons and logistical equipment, as confirmed by the Iraqi army. The counterattacks underscore the ongoing commitment to eradicate the persistent threat of ISIS in the region.
