Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties continue to rally ahead of Iraqi provincial councils
BAGHDEDE, Iraq — As the provincial elections in Iraq draw near, political parties are intensifying efforts to explain their platforms and secure votes. The Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) took steps in this direction, with a delegation visiting the Sanharib branch of the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) in Alqosh. Both parties are members of the Athra Alliance, a joint political bloc formed by the HBA, Zowaa, the Assyrian Patriotic Party, Abnaa al-Nahrain, and the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian Popular Council.
The HBA delegation, led by Athra Alliance candidate Joseph Sliwa, along with Ma’rib Hinno and local official Samer Khaled, engaged in discussions with Zowaa representatives. The meeting, attended by Markus Aremia, Sanai Mansour, and Alan Mutlub, emphasized the importance of educating voters from Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian communities to ensure informed choices for genuine representation in provincial councils.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the Athra Alliance, emphasizing its dedication to addressing the concerns of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people while advocating for their rights.
During a tour of Alqosh, the Athra Alliance stressed the significance of community participation in the elections and urged support for candidates aligned with their causes, especially in light of ongoing attempts at demographic change in Nineveh Plains.
