Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq distributes quota seats in Kurdistan Regional Parliament
ERBIL, Iraq — The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq has announced the distribution of quota seats in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, designating representation for Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians, Turkmen, and Armenians.
Five seats have been apportioned to the Turkmen community, five to the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community, and one to the Armenian community.
Mona Qahwaji, the Secretary of the Fifth Session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, outlined the distribution, indicating that Sulaymaniyah Governorate will have 41 seats, Erbil Governorate 34 seats, and Nohadra (Duhok) Governorate 25 seats.
Further details provided by Qahwaji highlight specific allocations in Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, and Nohadra, ensuring representation for minority components in various governorates.
Aram Jamal, Director of the Kurdish Elections Institute, clarified that the Election Commission’s book is not final and subject to potential changes based on opinions presented to the Federal Supreme Court.
