Syriac Maronite Patriarch Al-Rai declares solidarity with people of South Lebanon

BEIRUT — As part of the solidarity of the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Archbishops with people of South Lebanon, who are suffering from the consequences of the Gaza war, the Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros al-Rai and Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan visited the Archdiocese of Tyre.

The two patriarchs and their accompanying delegation began their visit at the Syriac Maronite church of Our Lady of the Seas in Tyre, praying for peace.

The two patriarchs were received by Archbishops from various churches in the Archdioceses of Sidon and Tyre, Mufti of Tyre and Commander of the Western Sector, a delegation from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and representatives of the Lebanese security and military forces.

During his tour, Al-Rai called on working to bring peace and give the oppressed peoples their rights, stressing that a solidarity visit, under difficult circumstances, is considered a humanitarian duty for peace.

The patriarch pointed out that all the southern towns, whose residents were forced to leave their homes, are suffering from the consequences of the war on Gaza.

Al-Rai called for protecting the homeland and working for the Palestinian cause.
