US-led International Coalition commends Administration of North and East Syria and Syrian Democratic Forces for successful repatriation efforts, returning 96 women and children from ISIS camps
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The US-led Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) praised the unwavering efforts of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in facilitating the repatriation of families associated with the Islamic State (ISIS).
CJTF-OIR reported that this week alone, 96 women and children were successfully repatriated from camps in North and East Syria. These individuals, nationals of Central Asian countries, had the opportunity to reunite with their relatives before the next phase of their journey back to their homeland.
In 2023, the collaborative efforts of the AANES and SDF have contributed to the repatriation of approximately 4,400 people, according to CJTF-OIR. The US-led coalition specifically commended its partners for their dedication in providing humanitarian services and mitigating the risks of ISIS terrorists exploiting vulnerable children and women.
Notably, the camps in North and East Syria housing ISIS families comprise around 47,000 individuals, predominantly children, representing over 60 countries. AANES is actively engaged on multiple fronts to repatriate these individuals to their countries of origin. However, it’s underscored that some countries are reluctant to repatriate their nationals, despite the evident security threat posed by their continued presence in the region.
